Warm Home Discount Eligibility Checker 2025/26
The Warm Home Discount gives eligible households £150 off their electricity bill. For 2025/26, most eligible households are contacted automatically — but you need to know if you qualify and what to do if you do not receive a letter.

How the Warm Home Discount Works
The £150 Warm Home Discount is a one-off rebate applied directly to your electricity account (not paid as cash). Most eligible households receive a letter from the government between October and February. The discount is applied automatically for Core Group 1 and 2 — you do not need to apply if you are in these groups, provided your supplier participates.
Core Group 1 — Pension Credit recipients
If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you are automatically in Core Group 1 and receive the discount automatically from your energy supplier. You should receive a letter confirming this between October and January.
Core Group 2 — Low income + high energy costs
Households receiving certain means-tested benefits who also live in a property with high energy costs (based on government modelling of your property's characteristics) are in Core Group 2. The DWP matches benefit data against energy efficiency ratings. You will receive a letter if you qualify — again, automatic.
Industry Scheme — Apply directly to your supplier
Each participating supplier may run their own Industry Scheme for households not in Core Group 1 or 2 but who have a low income or receive certain benefits. Criteria and availability vary by supplier — contact your supplier from around September each year to check.
